Meet Shakti, my very first Kaia Gee Goddesswear Gown!
The Shakti Goddess Gown takes 6 yards of decadent bamboo fabric and an entire week of cutting, sewing, braiding, and hand-stitching down yards and yards of plaits to make. Its sumptuously silky one-shoulder is taut at the bodice, and draped in ropes and ropes of hand-braided plaits that cascade down the back, before flowing from a set of gentle pleats at the waist to pool at your feet. Using only the natural four-way stretch of this sustainable bamboo knit allows this dress to breathe and meld with your curves, while the added braided support at the neckline offers a secure bosom that will not slip or sag. Elegance meets comfort in this beautiful gown, made with additional lining at the bust wherein bust pads can be placed for those who prefer gentle shaping over a strapless bra. Beautiful for a wedding, sacred ceremony, special event, or any time you want to feel and look majestically powerful.
Shown here in Ivory and Forest Green, and made to order, just for you, in your size and choice of color. *Please measure for this dress while wearing the shoes you intend to wear.
The Inspiration:
Shakti is the embodiment of divine feminine energy. Shakti is movement, creativity, creation, and flow. She is breath. She is transformation. She is raw, unbridled power, drawn from the wellspring of each essential self.
Why Bamboo?
I chose bamboo for its excellent breathability and sustainability. Honestly, I won't wear anything else these days. Because bamboo grows so quickly and easily, its impact on the environment is minuscule in comparison to other textiles. It's also anti-microbial and temperature regulating, meaning it can be worn through all seasons. (Though perhaps not for a deep-winter hike.) And it feels decadently soft.
Why Only Custom-Made?
All Kaia Gee Goddesswear is created for you, sized to your exact measurements. Not only is this a true zero-waste model, as fabric is not cut until it is claimed to create a specific person's Goddesswear, but in a world where so many of us try to fit our bodies to mass-produced clothes, I'm attempting to return to how clothing used to be made-- to fit our bodies, not the other way around. This is why everything is made for you, and why there is a wait period. My philosophy is: if it fits you beautifully, you will feel even more like the powerful Goddess you are.
How Do I Get You My Measurements?
I ask that you kindly put your measurements in the notes at checkout. I'll need to know your Waist, Hips, and Outseam (an Inseam is not necessary for this gown.) Please wear the shoes you plan to wear while measuring your outseam. There's a handy measurement graphic in the photo gallery with instructions on how to measure yourself with a fabric measuring tape. You can measure alone, but having a partner is handy to accurately measure your outseam. If you can't quite get it yourself, let me know your height in the notes at checkout. I can estimate the length off that. When ordering, peruse my general sizing chart in the photo gallery to find your base size. If you have a bust, waist, and hip that fall into different size categories, please select that size that correlates to your waist size when checking out.
What Colors Do You Have?
I currently have six colors to choose from.
In 95% Bamboo and 5% Spandex: Black, Ivory, Forest Green. These colors are silkier and slinkier. They work especially beautifully for my Freya and the Aphrodite pants.
In 66% Bamboo, 28% Organic Cotton, and 6% Spandex: Terra Cotta, Dusky Lavender, and Violet. These colors have a bit more body, and a cozier softness, due to the addition of Organic Cotton.
When Will My Gown Arrive?
At this time, the estimated ship date for your Custom Goddesswear is 4-6 weeks. Art takes time, and I often have to create new pattern pieces to match an individual's body. I'm so grateful for your patience. This is slow fashion at its finest.
How Do I Care for My Custom Goddesswear?
Machine wash cold on delicate cycle, and lay flat to dry so your Goddesswear retains the memory and custom fit of your figure. Heat from dryers, while oh-so-convenient, breaks down the integrity of the natural stretch in any fabric, so that they disintegrate much faster. Laying flat to dry takes a little extra intention and time, but it's worth it to preserve your custom garment.
Do You Accept Returns?
Every garment is made specifically for you, and I often create individual patterns specifically for you, based on your measurements. Therefore, there are no returns on Custom Goddesswear, but I do my utmost to help you order with confidence by providing you with the most comprehensive measuring system I can, as well as a plethora of inspiration images. Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Is There A Way to See the Fabrics in Person?
Yes! For those of you who, like me, are a tactile person, I've created a Goddess Starter Kit you can purchase. Inside you'll receive fabric samples of my current colors, as well as a fabric measuring tape for taking your measurements with ease, flyers with my measurement guide, and a coupon for free shipping off your first order of Kaia Gee Goddesswear. In the NY area? Sign up for my newsletter to be informed of in-person events where you can feel and try on my designs in person!
